Quality applies to JPG and WebP. The background color is used where the format has no transparency (JPG, BMP). Location and camera data are removed.

Your images never leave your browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server and nothing is stored.

    How it works

    Three steps, no upload

    Add your images

Drop image files onto the box, click Choose images, or paste an image from your clipboard. JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF, SVG and HEIC files can be added, up to 100 at once.

    Choose the new format

Pick JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP or ICO, then set the quality, the background for transparent areas and, if you like, a maximum size. Every image is converted again at once when you change a setting.

    Download

Check the before and after size of each image, then download single files or all of them as one ZIP. The converted files are created on your device and never uploaded.

    Why it matters

    Convert images without uploading them

Most online converters send your pictures to a server. This one does the work inside your browser, so private photos stay private.

Different apps, websites and devices accept different image formats. A form may only take JPG, a presentation may not show WebP, a favicon needs ICO, and a designer may send an SVG that you need as a PNG. This tool converts between the common formats directly on your device, so there is no upload wait, no daily limit set by a server and no copy of your pictures anywhere else. Converting changes how the image is stored, not what it shows, but lossy formats such as JPG and WebP discard a little detail, so keep your originals and check the result before you use it.

    Use cases

What people use an image converter for

    iPhone photos

Turn HEIC photos into JPG so that they open on any computer, website or app. HEIC files can be opened in Safari 17 or newer on iPhone, iPad and Mac.

    Smaller files

Convert large PNG photos, and screenshots that are mostly photographic, to JPG or WebP, which is usually the biggest single saving in file size. Keep PNG for screenshots with small text.

    WebP that will not open

Change WebP images that an app, editor or form rejects into ordinary JPG or PNG files.

    SVG to PNG

Turn a vector logo or icon into a PNG or JPG at the size you need for slides, social media or documents.

    Favicons

Create an ICO icon from a PNG or SVG logo for your website.

    Forms and uploads

Meet the format and size rules of an upload form, such as a visa, school or job application.

    Under the hood

    How the conversion works

Your browser decodes each image, draws it onto a canvas at the size you chose, and encodes it again in the new format. JPG and WebP are lossy formats: a lower quality setting discards more detail and gives a smaller file. PNG and BMP keep every pixel, ICO is stored as a small PNG, and a converted file can therefore be larger than the original. Formats without transparency, such as JPG and BMP, get the background color you choose. Images with more than about 16.8 million pixels are scaled down to that size. Animated GIF, PNG and WebP files are converted from their first frame only. HEIC and AVIF files can be opened only if your browser can decode them. Metadata such as EXIF, GPS location and embedded color profiles is not copied into the new file. All of this uses standard browser features, and the files are never sent over the network.

    Questions

    Frequently asked questions

    Basics
Is this image converter really free?
Yes. It is completely free, with no watermark and no paid tier. There is no daily limit set by this site, because the work runs on your own device.
Do I need an account to use it?
No. There is nothing to sign up for, no email address to give and no login. Add your images, choose the new format and download the result.
Are my images uploaded or stored anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser. Your images are not uploaded, logged or stored by this site, and they are gone when you close or reload the page.
    How does the conversion work?
The browser decodes your image into pixels, draws those pixels onto a canvas and encodes them again in the format you chose. Nothing leaves your device, and the original file is never changed.
    Formats and quality
Which image formats can I add?
JPG (JPEG), PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF, SVG and HEIC. AVIF and HEIC depend on your browser: AVIF opens in current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari, and HEIC opens where the browser can decode it, which in practice means Safari 17 or newer on iPhone, iPad and Mac. If a file cannot be opened, the tool tells you.
Which formats can I convert to?
JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP and ICO. WebP is offered only if your browser can create WebP images. ICO creates a single icon image of up to 256 pixels. Formats such as AVIF, GIF, HEIC, TIFF and PDF cannot be created.
Can I convert HEIC photos from my iPhone?
Yes, if your browser can open HEIC files. This tool has no HEIC decoder of its own, so it relies on the browser: Safari 17 or newer on iPhone, iPad and Mac can do it, while Chrome, Firefox and Edge cannot and the tool then shows a message for that file. On a Windows PC the converter usually cannot open HEIC photos. Convert them on the iPhone or a Mac in Safari, or set the iPhone camera to Most Compatible (usually under Settings, Camera, Formats) so that new photos are saved as JPG.
Should I choose JPG, PNG or WebP?
Use JPG for photos that need to work everywhere. Use PNG for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges or transparency. Use WebP for smaller files on websites and in modern apps. Converting a photo from PNG to JPG or WebP is usually the biggest single saving, while converting JPG to PNG makes the file larger without improving the picture.
    What happens to transparent backgrounds?
PNG, WebP and ICO keep transparency. JPG and BMP cannot store it, so transparent areas are filled with the background color you choose, white by default.
Will converting reduce the image quality?
Only if you convert to a lossy format or reduce the size. JPG and WebP discard a little detail, controlled by the quality slider; PNG and BMP keep every pixel of the (possibly resized) image. Repeated conversion to JPG or WebP adds up, so keep your originals and convert from them.
What happens to animated GIF files?
Only the first frame is converted, and the tool shows a notice. The output formats of this tool are still images and cannot hold an animation.
    Technical
Can I resize the images as well?
Yes. Choose a maximum size for the longest side, for example 1920 pixels. Larger images are scaled down and keep their proportions; smaller photos are never enlarged. An SVG is drawn at the size you choose, which is useful for a sharp PNG of a vector logo.
What happens to EXIF data, location and color profile?
The converted file contains no EXIF data, GPS location, camera information or embedded color profile, because the image is re-created from its pixels. The orientation of the photo is applied before that, so it is not rotated by mistake. The result is in the standard sRGB color space.
How many images can I convert at once, and does it work on a phone?
Up to 100 images at a time, and you can download them all as one ZIP file. The page works on phones and tablets, where you can pick photos from your gallery or camera roll. Once the page has loaded, conversion also works without a connection.
